In a busy, always-on world, taking time to slow down and reconnect is more important than ever. At Unity Place, wellbeing is brought to life through experiences that help people switch off, get creative and connect with others.
One of those experiences comes from Tiny Terra, a Milton Keynes-based small business specialising in terrarium workshops.
From Passion to Workshops
Tiny Terra started as a creative hobby and quickly grew into something more.
As founder Emily explains, “Tiny Terra is a small business run independently in Milton Keynes focusing on spreading the word on the wonderful world of terrariums. We started by sharing our creations online but quickly grew a following that wanted to experience building terrariums too.”
That demand led to hands-on workshops, now regularly hosted in our Sky Lounge here at Unity Place.
A Creative Escape
Terrarium building offers a simple but powerful way to unwind. It is creative, tactile and encourages people to be present.
Emily says, “Building the terrarium yourself leaves you with a feeling of accomplishment and pride in your creation.”
Workshops often bring together colleagues, friends and even strangers, creating a relaxed and social environment.
“There’s always a wonderful buzz in the air after our workshops,” Emily shares. “I find people make new friends and everyone is chatting by the end of it.”
The Wellbeing Benefits
Working with plants can boost confidence and create a sense of calm, especially for those who might not usually see themselves as creative.
“I often hear the ‘I’m not creative’ line at the start, but by the end people are proud of what they’ve made,” says Emily.
The hands-on nature of the sessions also helps people switch off from screens and focus on the moment.
“It’s grounding to be present in the moment, away from social media and our everyday lives,” she adds.
Creating Connection
More than anything, Tiny Terra workshops are about bringing people together.
“The end of the session is always filled with new conversations between people that were strangers two hours ago,” Emily says.
It is this sense of connection that makes the experience so memorable and impactful.
